My journey into science began with a BSc in chemical engineering, followed by and MSc in the same field, both from the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. During my research for my master’s thesis I worked on developing a new system for the cultivation of bacteria and became interested in bioprocess development. Over the course of my studies, learning about the consequences of environmentally unsound industrial practices was one of the major factors that sparked my interest in the design and implementation of more sustainable production methods. I thoroughly enjoy hands-on work in the lab, but I must admit to not being a fan of office work. Outside of work, I greatly enjoy hiking in the mountains, especially during the warmer part of the year, as well as drawing and cooking. If I had not become a scientist, I would likely have become a botanist or a beekeeper. My goal after finishing my PhD is to hopefully work in industry and develop new production processes.
