Construction of artificial metallolyases for C-C bond forming reactions
Host/Lead University: Catalonia Institute for Advanced Chemistry
Main Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Pere Clapés
Secondments: University of Groningen; Prozomix Ltd
My academic journey at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology particularly later focused on Applied Organic Chemistry has led me through the synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of the versatile derivatives of heterocyclic molecules. Currently, I’ve started my work in the field biocatalysis; designing and producing artificial metallolyases, and exploring various C-C bond forming reactions as part of my doctoral thesis at the Institute for Advanced Chemistry of Catalonia. Outside the lab, I’m all about balance. I love going for a run or escaping into the pages of a good book. If I hadn’t taken this scientific path, I could have envisioned myself as a pilot. The thought of navigating the skies, ensuring the safety of passengers, and experiencing the thrill of flight is truly exhilarating. It’s a profession quite distinct from my current journey in chemistry, but the idea of embracing a dynamic and adventurous career is equally appealing. I can truly get enthusiastic about various things, but what truly captivates me is the art of cooking and baking cakes. I enjoy infusing my own touch of creativity into the mix, transforming it into a delightful and personalized culinary experience. On the other hand, I really do not like being stuck in traffic during rush hour; it’s incredibly frustrating and a huge time-waster. My goal during and after the doctoral network is to explore opportunities for collaboration with industry, trying to apply my research to real-world applications.
