Key expertise

Fabíola Zuchi holds a degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of São Paulo. She developed her interest in biocatalysis and sustainability during her time in the Top Master’s program in Medical and Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation at the University of Groningen. In the course of her Ph.D., she conducted different projects under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Gerrit J. Poelarends that aimed to investigate, engineer, and apply enzymes for greener and more sustainable synthesis of pharmaceutical building blocks. Since June 2023, she works as Project Manager for the BiodeCCodiNNg HORIZON-MSCA-DN, led by Dr. Sandy Schmidt.

The Chemical and Pharmaceutical Biology Department (CBP) is represented by an enthusiastic group of researchers from different parts of the world. CBP has a strong (inter)national position in the area of enzyme discovery, characterization, promiscuity, engineering, and biocatalysis. A great part of the research projects is done in cooperation with international research labs and industry.
