Two years ago, I moved from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea to begin my #PhD journey here at the University of Groningen. Now, I have completed the first half of my PhD, and I am looking forward to the second half!Â
The past year of my journey has been eventful, both scientifically and privately. My second year started with my first #secondment at the University of Graz in Austria, where I stayed five months in the research group of Professor Karl Gruber and DC5, Nikita Pal, to uncover the structural and mechanistic secrets of #NNzymes. I also had the opportunity to attend my first conference and to present my very first poster at the AmineBiocat in Aachen, Germany. Additionally, #BiodeCCodiNNg enabled me to travel to Zagreb, Croatia, and Bochum, Germany, for two exciting and useful workshops.Â
Back in Groningen, I did not only return to my own project on enzyme characterization and engineering. My first master student joined me on my journey and provided and excellent opportunity to learn more about supervision and leadership.
In addition to all these academic opportunities, my PhD has brought me in contact with many new people and I found some of my closest friends in Groningen and also in BiodeCCodiNNg. I am looking forward to continue my PhD journey with these people and to make even more contacts in the future!
