A year has passed since I traded the Baltic Sea coast for the North Sea coast and started my time as a PhD student in the city of Groningen in the Netherlands!

I joined the #EuropeanUnion doctoral network BiodeCCodiNNg with nine other young researchers. My research is centered around the discovery and engineering of novel N-N bond-forming enzymes (#NNzymes) for novel reactions, with the aim of expanding their applicability.

During this past year, a lot has happened. I settled in a new country in my very first own flat (without roommates). In the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Biology department of the University of Groningen, I got acquainted with new colleagues who turned into friends and a new exciting project.

During the last year, I gained experience in handling a new class of enzymes and I am looking forward to investigating their structures during my first #secondment in the group of Professor Karl Gruber at the University of Graz. Although my start in Graz was not as smooth with a cast around a broken foot, I am nonetheless excited about the collaboration with DC5, Nikita Pal

I am more than ready to see what the next year will bring with new steps in the project, workshops and #conferences
