My second #PhD year taught me resilience and an analytical mindset that I expect to be useful in future research projects: Â
If it first looks to me like an experiment didn’t work, a second look might show that it did work — the result is just different from what I expected.
I am more than grateful for the events I participated in and the interactions on those events, which gave me a much deeper understanding of biocatalysis. My personal highlights were my first conferences (AmineBioCat and Biotrans), of which you can see my contributions on the photos. Another highlight shown in the third photo is my supervision of a student (Cynara Hawkes) in her mandatory internship followed by bachelor’s thesis, I am very excited for this opportunity. The last photo shows me in my natural habitat: in the lab, evaluating data from my experiments.Â
I am looking forward to the next year, providing me with the opportunity to work with entirely different enzymes in different labs within the frame of my secondments. My gratefulness goes to the endless support from my supervisor Dörte Rother and her group, as well as to the many opportunities within the #BiodeCCodiNNg network.Â
