November 4, 2024

It’s been a year since I moved to the beautiful city of Barcelona, known for its stunning architecture, rich culture, and lively atmosphere. From the iconic works of Gaudí to the vibrant local traditions, Barcelona never fails to captivate.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of joining the #EuropeanUnion #BiodeCCodiNNg doctoral network, beginning an exciting scientific journey. My research focuses on developing artificial #metallolyases – remarkable systems that combine the reactivity of metal centers with the adaptability of protein scaffolds.

This past year has brought some exciting challenges, and I’m happy to face them as part of my PhD journey. Working on a completely novel approach, using C-C bond coupling reactions in these complex enzymatic systems, has been an invaluable learning experience. Over the course of the year, I was mostly focused on the continuous preparation of artificial cofactors, which deepened my understanding of both the scientific concepts and practical techniques involved in my research. Additionally, I completed my industrial secondment at Prozomix Limited, where I gained valuable experience in #enzyme production. From troubleshooting experiments to mastering new methodologies, every step has contributed to building a strong foundation for the work ahead. The knowledge and skills I’ve gained so far have given me confidence as I continue to explore this exciting field.

I’m excited for the discoveries that lie ahead. There’s still so much to explore, and I’m looking forward to see what the next year has in store – whether it’s more progress in the lab, secondments, conferences, or exciting experiences along the way. The journey continues!
