Hi everyone! I am Flora, and this summer I moved to Jülich, Germany, for my PhD within the BiodeCCodiNNg Doctoral Network at Forschungszentrum Jülich. In the image, you can see me in front of the research center and its beautifully gardened green areas. 🌲🌿🍃

Coming from a background in food technology and biotechnology, I have always been excited about process technologies and the underlying laws of nature. This is the first time in my life that I could actually produce my own enzymes, and I could not be more excited to see the lyophilized, cotton-like textured carboligase in my flask at the end of a two-week process. Now I am really looking forward to determining its biocatalytic potential! 👩‍🔬🧪🔬

Moving to Germany as an Austrian came with some concepts that are familiar to me, but still, I am learning so many new things! In every aspect I could not be more grateful for the cordial welcome I received from the working group, eating cake together and laughing about Austrian words that don’t exist in Germany. In the last week of September, the first #BiodeCCodiNNgDN #TrainingEvent took place and brought the DC’s together as a team. I never felt more that in this team, comprising so many diverse backgrounds yet united in a passion for enzyme technology, we can support each other at best and together will manage our goal to make industrially relevant enzymatic reactions around C-C and N-N bond formation possible. 🌍

Stay on track to follow our journey!
